MEXICAN SILVER JEWELRY REPRODUCTIONS

Mexican jewelry collectors beware. Lily Castillo, daughter of the famous silversmith Antonio Castillo, is reproducing the works of some of the best-known 1950s Mexican jewelry makers, including Castillo, Margot de Taxco, and Hector Aguilar. She has permission to use their original hallmarks.

So how can we tell the old from the new?
Thanks!

How and why did she get permission to commit this fraud?

A good way to tell a reproduction is the Turquoise. The stones mined in the 1950's had beautiful marix running thru it. Newer Turquoise will more than likely be color enhanced as the mines do not produce the same quality stones as they used to.

Only one word comes to mind: disreputable! On the other hand, fraud is also apparent.
