I just got a new plastic storm door and was told not to clean it with Windex because ammonia will eventually cause the plastic to become cloudy. Not all plastic reacts the same way, but just to be sure don't use ammonia or ammonia-based cleaners on any form of old plastic, especially plastic purses and jewelry.

To best clean plastics, use furniture polish. I use it for all plastics and it cleans them and leaves them looking shine, clear, and new. A friend taght me to do this meny years ago and I was surprised to see how well it works.

We learned the hard way not to use Windex on a motorcycle windshield as well. However, we did learn that Glass Plus is ok to use, also the Glass Plus is better to use in your vehicle as it will not spot or stain the dashboard whereas Windex will. Back to the old tried and true....vinegar and water!

Here is another thing not to use ammonia on...Vintage bakeware made of aluminium. Example's would be that 9 x 13 pan or hammered aluminium. I once used my grandmothers 9 x 13 to soak an old metal trivet in ammonia to get the years of old cooking grease off. It left a black outline of the trivet in the bottom of my pan. Never to be the same again.
