GOT AN OLD WASHING MACHINE?

Maytag just traded a brand new washer and dryer for a 52-year-old pink washer and dryer owned by Jane Thompson of Sand Springs, Oklahoma. The latch broke on Jane's dryer, so it needed its first repair. The old machines will go in the Maytag museum. Jane says she wants her pink machines back if the new ones don't work as well as the old ones.

Good luck with the new Maytag machines working as well as the old ones. She probably won't get the pink ones back either.

Poor Jane, how naive to trust that they would return her vintage $ pink washer/dryer set for any reason!

Hope she can get her pink washer back. We have 9 year old Maytag 1st generation Neptune front loader, blew out a bearing and said they could fix for $800! Can get a new one for less than that. We have another Maytag about 40 years old and just keeps on keeping on, no repairs have been needed.Probably made in USA unlike newer ones?
Good luck! We will not purchase another Maytag.

Keep the Pink Set, My recent history with the Maytag Company was horrid, too bad as they used to have a stellar reputation.

In 1990, at an estate sale, I bought my daughter a Maytag washer, 1970's vintage (She knows the exact year; I do not.) Recently, when purchasing a new stove that she to replace because of a defect, mentioned to the salesman that she would rather be getting a new washer. When he heard what she had, he told her to keep it as long as she could--"they don't make 'em like that anymore".

Even good luck probably won't be enough. Ever since Whirlpool swallowed up Maytag, failure rates have skyrocketed, and their customer service stinks, too. These comments are based on personal experience with a recent vintage Maytag dishwasher, and extensive discussions with independent parts suppliers.

We have a 52 year old GE double stove that we still use...Do you think GE will trade us?

I read about her in the paper a while ago and thought she should have retained her vintage washer/dryer set at the time - but she was offered brand, spankin' new ones, free. My own Maytag, bought used in 1975, was already 15 years old. I gave it to my sister in 1981, who used it until she replaced it with a matching set in 1993. It was 33 years old by then and it went on to serve another 5 years with a family with five kids. Talk about hard working! It did finally see 'retirement' but was still working just fine...! If you take care of a good quality washing machine, it will last you longer than if it wasn;t maintained. I have had my Frigidaire frontloader W/D set since 1996 and it still runs like a champ!

I have a 1947 Maytag washing machine that I use weekly. I love it especially putting clothes through the wringer. I also don't have a dryer and I think my clothes are lasting longer. Mine is white. Wish I had a pink one.

I have three antique washers that we found in an old farm house. Should we dump them, or try to find them a new home? One has a copper tub. Please advise. Hewesb
