Unpredictable PricesPrices can be unpredictable but last week some were amazing. The Queen Anne carved walnut Compass-Seat footstool made in Philadelphia c. 1750 sold at Sotheby's with an estimate of $200,000 to $400,000. It auctioned for $5,234,500, the record price for a piece of seating furniture at auction.

The rich in gas producing countries are disappointed if the price is too low. This is no indication of future values.
I just wonder WHY?? I know it's Queen Anne, but it's not that interesting or special looking. Are foot stools that rare? Perhaps the maker is important?
Just proves P.T. Barnum was right.
Was the footstool made by the Queen herself?
