Nearly 1.6 million drop-side cribs made by Delta Enterprises between 1995 and 2005 have been recalled. Delta has set up a website for consumers: CribRecallCenter.com.
Don't buy an antique crib for your baby. Too many old cribs have bars too far apart, too much space between the mattress and crib sides, and poorly designed drop sides.

Our "crib" for our children was a lovely walnut rocking cradle with a foot pedal, probably from the 1850s. It was hard to find and hard to give up when we needed the space. I kept a photo of the lovely piece for which I made padded bumpers.
Don't forget about lead-based paint! Until 1978, ALL paint contained lead, which causes severe health problems, especially in young children, if ingested. ANY antique, or even hand-me-down wooden or other painted toy, toybox, or furniture should be scraped and repainted before being used where children can potentially use it for teething.
