If you collect Russian nesting dolls, a favorite souvenir, you will be delighted to learn that the Russian government will spend up to $28.4 million to buy nesting dolls ("matryoshkas" in Russian) and hand-painted dishes for the Kremlin and state agencies to give as gifts. The "stimulus" is meant to help native craftsmen, who often come from families that have been selling the dolls for years.

I bought a set of matryoshkas in the early 1970's in Moscow. The large, outside doll is 8 and 3/4" tall and has the mark "HXII-KI1-111 then next line 11.25-GO". I'm not sure about the "I"s and the "1"s. The set contains 13 dolls.
I was thrilled to see the article on the Russian Matryoshkas! I had purchased two older sets at an estate sale possibly 20 yrs ago. One has "USSR" stamped on the bottom and the other had a paper tag with "USSR" stamped on it. Unfortunately, in moving the sets, the paper fell off! I would be interested in knowing where to find out more information to contact someone to sell these.
I just love these little dolls. Antes was my maiden name and a decendant from Germany. The craftsmanship on each one has such intricate detail.
How do we go about selling to Russia? Is there anymore information?
apparently you are all missing the point, their government stimulus is for Native crafters, not americans who have bought the crafts.
