ONLINE AUCTION SITES

Thanks to all of you who have emailed or written that you trust us and would like us to start an online site for buying and selling because you're upset with eBay. No thanks. Our plate is full enough right now. But we are making a list of places to sell online that are similar to eBay. Please send us your suggestions and we will post the complete list soon.

Boy wouldn't it be nice to have a good site for high end collectibles. I've started my own in hopes of doing more in the future. See http://www.dakotapaul.com/index.htm

Would like to recommend a site, mainly ebayers and some ex-ebayers both buying and selling on there at the moment, with Membership and sales increasing daily. Try

We have sold on IOFFER.COM for the last four years with a store format, and it has worked great for us. Most of our traffic comes from Google and Yahoo search engines, and with the correct setup with keywords and other search engine optimization features, we have made consistent sales of small items that we could not sell on that other site because of the fees.

iOffer fees are much lower over-all and we are able to leave the items in the store until they sell at no monthly cost. It has been a great site for us, and we are continuing to see more buyer traffic.

I work at an online auction called "shopgoodwill.com". We are similar to ebay. All of our items come from Goodwill donation and all the proceeds goes back into our programs. We have currently about 74 online stores across the US and more coming on all the time. We all work on site at a Goodwill location.

I would like to suggest Bonanzle.com they are taking off wonderfully. Membership is growing at an incredible pace, friendly atmosphere, no listing fees low final value fee, can accept all forms of payment and the list of good news for the site goes on and on.

One of the most enjoyable sites for selling items is Bonanzle. I was on eBay for over 8 years and love the spirit and the wide appeal of the Bonanzle sellers. It is a marketplace, rather than an auction, but has a great seller base and is growing by leaps and bounds.Around Labor Day, it had 1370 users. Now it's about 9400. The technical support is absolutely fantastic. Stop by www.bonanzle.com and see for yourself! It's a great place!

I had a booth on Rubylane some years ago but felt there was not enough traffic. Since then it has improved its site, increased its traffic and from what I can see, has maintained the thoughtful service to the SELLER that is needed. I am contemplating opening a booth on Rubylane again.

I have had success selling on OnlineAuction.com. Previously I sold on ebay for 9 years. OLA is my main thrust for selling as well as a store at BISI.

I have been selling on e-bay for 7 years, I have just recently opened an account on e-bid and will try it out so when e-bay gets real unbearable, I can jump ship. I do not like e-bay any more, but need the income.

11/19 After reading most of the comments posted about Ebays rules & regulations I checked out the Seeauctions.com site that was recommended. My question: I notice it says payment can be made by either Google check out OR BY PAYPAL. If, as I was led to believe, EBAY owns PAYPAL then are we dealing with an offshoot of Ebay under another name?? Does anyone know if Ebay actually HAS other online auction sites that are not called Ebay? I am so discouraged with the way Ebay has been dictating & I am also looking for another source of online auctions.

Hi
I have been a recipient of your newsletter now for over a year and it is excellent with some good advice.
Starting a web site to to take on Ebay is a daunting task, however, some competition is urgently needed. I am a collector having been a businessman working for such companies as Ford, GE etc. In addition, I successfully ran two companies as co-owner - a glass company and a nursing home company.
I would like to help and run - for free - in anyway I can with the development of a "not for profit" web site that will compete with Ebay.
Thanks

I gave up on eBay after the grilled cheese with the image of the Virgin Mary was auctioned off. What a joke.
I have sold on Ruby Lane for 4 years and have been very satisfied. Ruby Lane actually has STANDARDS to which sellers must adhere. Their rates are reasonable, and the clientele is far more serious, and of good quality.

Thank you, thank you! I am looking forward to your suggestions. E-Bay won't be around long if they continue in their current direction. (tulvog)

I left eBay 2 yrs ago and haven't sold online ever since. That is until I found Bonanzle.

This is the place to be, for buyers and sellers both. No listing fees, very low final value fees, simplicity in listing your items, great customer service and the community, the friendliest I've ever come across online.

Bonanzle, is IT!

Try ebid.com They seem to be an up and coming auction site. Jim

Bonanzle is my new home. Mainly because sellers have a free booth and fee listings. Items can be submitted to Google search which is a huge source of traffic. It's also super friendly!

Loving Bonanzle.com with monthly Bonanzas ( Special Discounting Hours ) and wide range of sellers. Variety at it's best on an online venue with instant chat between buyers and sellers. Imagine that!

Thanks for the opportunity to notify those looking for their hard to find Christmas items.

Pop into my booth, and look around, I even have selected some of my favorite sellers.

My home these days is BONANZLE.
It is a rapidly growing site that features no listing fees, small final value fees, easy one page listing, instant chat and instant response for whatever concern you might have.
Fixed prices and best offer options,it is a user friendly site for buyers and sellers alike.

Bonanzle. No doubt about it. Can't even begin to describe all the great happenings going on. Just go check it out - you'll be glad you did!

I've been on eBay for almost 11 years and have recently discovered Bonanzle (www.bonanzle.com). I am totally impressed with the ease of listing, integrated chat, the community, the friendliness, and the superior customer service there. Bonanzle has re-invented what eBay has lost--FUN!

Bonanzle IS the future of online selling.

Anonymous said...

Bonanzle.com is a great place to sell. The seller determines which form of payment they want to accept, free listing & up to four free photos, low fvf...a very upbeat place!

Anonymous said...

Bonanzle is the up and coming place to be with nearly 10,000 members half of which have joined in the past MONTH. As a ten year Ebay veteran, I was skeptical, until I got my first sale, and then another and another. I have had more sales in one month on Bonanzle than I have had the past YEAR on Ebay. Bonanzle is more than just a place to sell, too: it's an actual community of live humans interacting. Everyone that has tried it says they LOVE Bonanzle. I've never seen that emotional a response to any other seller site.

Anonymous said...

I too have been a 9-year veteran of eBay how is now getting the royal shaft. I have jumped to etsy.com, because they have a vintage division, and although it's not auction, it has been okay for the interim. Their drive is handmades, but more and more people are using the vintage sector. Thanks for this forum - I will definitely check all these suggestions! Keep up the good work, and much thanks,

Having sold on ebay for some time, when it came time to leave my number one choice would be a venue that allowed me to have control over my business, and to communicate with my clients and potential clients.
I found all of that and more at bonanzle.com. I decide what payment types I am willing to accept, and the quick text and in booth chat features allow me to provide excellent customer service.
Add the amazing growth rate, free to list with low FVF, and "make an offer" feature to a wonderfully helpful community and you have a venue setting the standard for new site growth.

I am currently listing on a small online auction site. It has a selection of really great collectibles. They get a lot of traffic and the sellers there provide excellent customer service. Plus the site has a mission, supplying care packages to deployed Military. Check out www.MilBid.com
Two of the great sellers there are Rainbowseeker antiques and Purple Cow Antiques.

Ebays number 1 fan,
I do not see any other site that will ever come close to ebay.craigslist sells alot more then the other places listed. We may not like the changes to ebay and im sure many people won't sell or buy from ebay anymore but lets face it Ebay rules and will be the number 1 place to sell anything.I wouldn't sell any where else .not enough buyers.

Anonymous said...

I'm not ready to give up on eBay, but nobody says we can't sell in more than one place. Bonanzle.com is an up and comer that is showing tremondous promise. It's a fun and friendly place to sell, and the whole process is SO SIMPLE. An innovative and fresh new site.

Anonymous said...

I followed the lead and went to bonanzle. I just recently got there, so haven't had a real chance to evaluate. Lots of nice things, very eclectic and great bargains in some booths. But from what I have read, most people are selling only 1-2 items a week, if that. Looks like window shoppers from other sellers are the main traffic. Hopefully, the rest of the online community (AKA buyers!) will find their way to Bonanzle soon.

Anonymous said...

I have to agree with all the folks who listed Bonanzle as the best alternative to ebay. Very easy to list, has google feeds, and the owner's are 2nd to none on customer service and taking care of their members.

I had 2 sales my first day, and haven't looked back.

I've been selling on Delcampe.net for over a year afer escaping from Ebay. It's a great site for stamps, vintage postcards and coins.

Anonymous said...

I would still use eBay for new items but for vintage, handmade and supplies I now us etsy.com as my alternative to ebay. I get way more traffic there but buyers are scarce as hen's teeth everywhere you list. Buyers are now returning now that the gas prices have gone back down but I went over a month without a sale on etsy. My etsy shop address is: www.innagodadabeada.etsy.com

Good luck to all and thanks for the new ideas on alternatives to ebay. Long time coming!

Lots of people talking about Bonanzle but it's not an auction site. I need cash flow and I need to keep my merchandise moving so I need to use an auction venue. I'm currently investing my time with a new small site www.MilBid.com and slowly, but surely it is growing. There are good people there working hard to promote themselves and the site. The site also has a terrific mission statement as well that supports our military troops. For sellers and buyers the site is 100% FREE. And you can run auctions from a store or sell by fixed price or with a bin if that is what works best for you. Check the site out if you want auctions like I do.

The title of the topic says it all!! Onlineauction.com, aka OLA.com is definitely the site to use, both as a buyer and a seller. Superior service, caring community and a huge variety of items in both auction and fixed price format. And, sellers can list for only 8.00 a month, which means better deals to pass on to buyers!! Friendly and approachable staff, and perks like 4 free pics, free auto relist, no final value fees, a variety of payment options for buyers, and MORE make Onlineauction.com THE site of the future!!

I have never been a big fan of E-bay as a buyer. Never sold there. I have been on Ruby Lane. It is a good site, but a bit too expensive for my low end items. I am now selling on Etsy. We do handcrafted items as well as vintage so this is a great fit for us. It is not an auction, but a shop set up. Their main focus is handcrafted items, but vintage fits there too. A very friendly site with low fees, lots of help and a HUGE and growing buyer/seller base! www.etsy.com

Like a lot of others before me have said BONANZLE.com! Three weeks - 3 sales and my stuff is not even finished being edited!

I also tried I-offer but didn't like that they kept nagging me about signing in all the time and sold 1 thing in 6 mos for $4. NOT going to make a living that way.

www.bonanzle.com for me!

I tried several other Sites with no overall satisfaction. Then I found a new happy 'home' at Bonanzle. Everything is Free in the listing process with a very small fee paid IF your item sells. The Community and the Owners are friendly, helpful, informative, supportive and fun. I am in total agreement with the previous comments made by those whom are currently at Bonanzle. www./bonanzle.com

Has anyone checked to see if eBid is an offshoot of EBAY? I am very impressed with the comments on the Bonanzle site and will check that out today.

I too left EBay and closed my store there. I spent about a year looking for a new selling venue that would meet all my needs. Bonanzle is it,I'm very happy with this new site.

At Bonanzle you will find all that has been lost with EBay and then some.

Best of all,Your in control, you set the price, your sales, discounts and when you want to hold a special sale. You are not told what payments to accept, how much to ship an item for,nor are your listings hidden in the searches.

No matter how large or small your booth (store) is, it's still your business. Who better to know how to run it then yourself?

Support? It's the best not only from the site owners but the members as well. Have a question from a seller about their wares,or a site question? Get the answer in real time chat.

I hope you come take a look at Bonanzle, over 9000 members (and growing everyday),must be on to something.

Thank you for offering the space to voice our opinions.

I love Bonanzle. It is a friendly place to buy and sell. It is not an auction site; you list your items with a fixed price and you have the option of taking best offers. This site is awesome! Check it out at www.bonanzle.com.

Bonanzle is the place to be. Fast listing of your items and ease of use.

Anonymous said...

First of all I want to thank you for giving sellers the opportunity to voice their favorite on-line marketplace.

I had the pleasure of meeting you a few years ago. You did an interview at Kane County and Goldrush in my booth.

I sell on several different on-line venues. I have found that I like Bonanzle best.

I've sold on many sites and have invested hours upon hours of time and effort listing. Including the top antiques and collectible venues that charge both a monthly fee and commission. I've became very disenchanted with many sites. Complicated listing templates, slow customer service and hefty fees.

I grow more confident everyday with Bonanzle and it's success as a popular antiques and collectibles marketplace. Yes, there are a lot of new items, craft items and personal care items. These sellers also add to the enhancement of the site. As time passes more and more antiques and older collectibles dealers are finding their way to Bonanzle. If you are tired of being swept under the carpet by eBay ... Bonanzle is the home for you! Bonanzle will transfer your active items and your feedback. How simple is that?

If you are no longer a seller on eBay, such as myself the listing process is fast and simple for individual listings. Need help? Bill Harding and Mark are there to provide one on one customer support. Easy to follow help guides are available for any given topic. The discussion boards are filled with friendly Bonanzler's that share their knowledge and expertise. No monthly booth fee! The selling commission is so cheap it will blow your socks off!

If you would like a marketplace for your antiques and collectibles Bonanzle is the up and coming place to be!

See Auctions has no connection to Ebay. They only take paypal because some buyers and sellers still want this option. This is why you can use Google checkout. Ebay does not allow this. You decide how you want payment.

Anonymous said...

Try selling on etsy.com It's a site for handmade goods as well as vintage items. It's a fun site - you can find me there as sellerheather ;o)

Karen Locker said...

Bonanzle is great if you want an online store without having to do your own website but it is not an auction site. The only online auctions sites I see mentioned in all the comments are Seeauctions, Ebid, Online Auctions and Milbid. I think there is still a market for auction sites. Even Ebay if you read is trying to move towards more fixed price listings. So I would say if you are looking for an auction auction site check out one of the ones I listed above.

Anonymous said...

No one has mentioned eCrater, but it is a great selling site that is totally FREE----no listing fees and no final fees. The site is very easy to use. If you know how to copy and paste, you can make quick work of duplicating your listings there.
I am listing ALL of my items on eCrater and selectively listing in my Ruby Lane and Bonanzle booths. I am positioning myself to leave eBay after the holidays.

The title is AUCTION SITES. I don't see AUCTIONS on Bonanzle??

Anonymous said...

After over 8 years on ebay, I went to www.onlineauction.com. I searched tons of sites and OLA is the one most like ebay. I like the ole fashioned bidding on auctions and on OLA they have alot of different auction formats for the seller to choose how they want to sell. The site is very easy to use and not confusing like the others I checked out. 1 low monthly fee, 0 fvf, 0 relisting fee, 4 free pictures. Freedom of payment choices & freedom of feedback. OLA is growing so fast, it's very exciting. It is making selling & buying online fun again like ebay use to be years ago. I truely believe OLA will be the #1 auction site!

I've have found seeauctions.com and am very happy with the site and what I've purchased so far. I just joined as a seller because the fee structure is very affordable. The listing process, management system, payment & invoicing, customer service are all much better than ebay. Finally a true auction site for only antiques & collectibles! www.seeauctions.com

So everyone seems to be shouting about bonanzle and that it now has 10,000 members, ebid.net has just reached half a million members so if you are looking for a replacement for ebay that is already a decent size eBid.net is the one to have a serious look at in my opinion.

The forums certainly are a lot friendlier and more helpful than Greedbay!

Anonymous said...

From the suggesions above:

ebid.net is slow and bloated, much like ebay. Bonanzle has too much fluff and no auctions. Goantiques and Tias just want your money. Ruby Lane has seen a big decrease in sales. Seeauctions.com is newer and might have a bright future?

Conclusion: I'm going to look at seeauctions.com because I don't know much yet. (i'm still with ebay & ruby lane and not happy with either)

Anonymous said...

The site I like best is http://uk.ebid.net/ it offers the best option financially and provides you with RSS feeds for your individual store categories - great for marketing your items on blogs etc.
eBid is also truly international and has been winning awards this year. Having tried quite a few auction sites (I wrote about some of my experiences here http://www.squidoo.com/ebay-or-not-ebay ) eBid offer the best alternative I have found to eBay.
I wrote about eBid stores here http://www.squidoo.com/0ctavias0fferings_eBid_Stores
Whether you succeed on an alternative site to eBay will be largely down to your own marketing abilities and some sellers do understand this which is why we have started this promotion http://www.squidoo.com/Penny_Auctions

Anonymous said...

Seeauctions.com has some killer pieces listed, and seems to be catching on. Being a new site, it'll take awhile I suppose for buyers and sellers to find it and get comfortable with it, but it could take off. There's no junk there, like ebay, or bonanzle, and you can set up a store front, or go the auction route. It's the best alternative I've seen yet to ebay, where I've been selling for the last 9 years. I'm sick of their shenanigans.

a really good and credible site is: www.collectibles-yardsale.com - not an auction but credible place to buy collectibles. Thanks.

I have had items listed on Bonanzle for about 6 weeks and have sold one item but things are picking up with inquiries, etc. In 6 weeks, the number of users has tripled. You can list at no initial cost forever. They are also clever enough to realize how to keep shipping cost low. When you do sell, your final value is based on the cost of the item plus shipping. Before this I sold on eBay for about 11 years. I love Bonanzle because the people are so friendly, you can import active eBay listings and the graphic design is excellent. Several years ago, I tried Wagglepop but didn't stay there long because items were not selling.

Unknown said...

I absolutely can't say enough good things about www.bonanzle.com, but I'll try:
-Super friendly and active online community with the vibe of an outdoor marketplace.
-Streamlined and incredibly simple listing form.
-Straightfoward and reasonable FVFs
-Live chatting within your booth (that's what a store is called there) so online sellers can answer questions about their items on the spot
-Listing an item is FREE!!! Repeat: NO listing fees!
-Actual Customer Service. Real people, responding to email questions. Can it get any better?

Bonanzle is still small, but it's growing incredibly quickly. They'll hit 10,000 members by the end of the week and it can only go up from there.

I've tried a few sites but the one I'm stuck on is http://bonanzle.com . Has to be the coolest and the "boyz" are the bomb!! Love ya guyz, without you we'd be just another selling site :)

Ebid is very flexible for both buyer and seller!

For sellers ebid.net are the only serious contender for anyone who wishes to escape the stranglehold of ebay and paypal.
Ebid.net is free to list and depending on your membership level and style of listing there are no FVFs. Even when there are FVFs to be paid these are low. The advantages of none or low seller fees is obvious not only for the seller, but to the buyer as well - this means more bargains as any sensible seller will pass these savings onto the buyer in order to attract business.

Ebid allows you to make and receive payment by Google Checkout - what a bonus!

Ebid is a great place for buyers as there are bargains to be had (remember those passed on seller fee savings). Ebid is very strong on keeping crap off its site, which in turn reduces the amount of scam artists.

HI! I found Bonanzle a few weeks ago and absolutely LOVE it! Very reminiscent of the original ebay community... and even nicer and friendlier. There online chat addition is fun!! I heartily recommend it. I have closed my ebay store and am concentrating on helping Bonanzle to make a go of it. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

p.s I also use iOffer which is an okay site. The only problem is that there is no support help. Bonanzle support is outstanding!! and personal!

I have closed my eBay store, after 8 years, of buying and selling there.

Just to verify I made the correct decision, I listed 17 items, on eBay. They were formerly my best sellers there. Most were auctions, some were BIN. My listing fees were $15.02, my sales were $9.99, my PayPal fee was $.47, and I forget the FVF. My net Profit on the sale was a whopping -$5.55, before the cost of my merchandise.

This is why I have moved to my new home, where on the same transaction, My fees would have been $.50, plus the cost of the merchandise.

My new home is Bonanzle, and I love it there. bonanzle.com

Thanks for allowing this post. It is wonderful to be able to let people know about the best new online store site around.

Hey Everyone! My husband & I sell on Feebay and hate it! So I have started doing research for a replacement after the holidays. One of THE BEST TOOLS FOR RESEARCH of this sort is Quantcast.com. It is free and will give you market research, traffic, rankings, demographics and whether or not they accept advertising for any site you can name. As far as I can see for non-auction fixed price sales eCrater is the best option and for auction style sales eBid.net has the best ranking and demographics for people trying to get away from Ebay. Take some time and do your own research before jumping from one place to another. It will save enormous amounts of time with relisting your things later! Have a great Holiday Season, y'all! eBid.net works for me,the site is all about choice.

You choose whether to list auctions or BuyNows (or both).

You choose the payment providers, you want to deal with.

You choose whether to set a reserve, you choose whether to use auto extend.

You can choose listing durations from 3 to 90 days, (if you use buynow you can use RunTilSold)

There is no cap on the number of listings you can have, but identical listings are not allowed.

All qualifying listings are uploaded to google products 6 times a month.

RSS feeds are available, for all your listings, or are flexible enough to show just one of your stores, or even one of your store categories if you want to.

If you go for free seller membership you pay a 3% fvf.

If you choose to pay for Seller+, you can list & sell for free, although most use a gallery listing with a 2% fvf.
As a Seller + member you get FIVE FREE STORES.

A one off payment of 49.99 will set you up as a Seller+ member FOR LIFE!!.

I have been on ebay and Ruby Lane for years. I like RL but ebay has turned against their sellers and buyers! The very people who butter their bread!

Did you know that ebay will not let you accept checks, money orders or certified checks anymore? What does that leave???? Oh yeah, Paypal whom they own! Ebay needs to be tumbled off their pedestal that they are on!

I gave up and had someone build me a site www.auntvicksgems.com It will be slow going but at least I will be my own boss!

I left Ebay and went to a internet mall type website, called icollect247.com. It is the easiest place I have seen to list antique and vintage collectable items. Sellers determine what forms of payment they will accept. You can set a price for your item and also take offers, just like on Ebay. The owners review every item that is listed, for quality control. Every item is pre-1970, and no reproductions or limited edition collectables are allowed. Price is a flat fee of $35 a month. Compared to Ebay, a bargain!
