Q: I have an old ironing board, chair, step ladder combination piece of furniture. Can you tell me anything about it?
A: Combination furniture like your ironing board, step stool, and chair are still being made. Some people call the combination a "bachelor chair" or "Jefferson chair." One legend says that it is an adaptation of an 18th-century bachelor's chair dating from the time of Thomas Jefferson. The Amish make them and call them "On-it-chairs." The ironing board chair is a novelty that sells for about $35.

I was delighted to see your combined ironing board, stool, etc.
I have a combination round, drop leaf dining room table where the center leaf, when turned over, is an ironing board.
I'd love to know how old it is and worth. Thank ;you for posting it.
The childrens version of the Jefferson Chair (IRONING BOARD STEP STOOL) is $35.00. The adult versions are $140 to $200 delivered!
Is there a way to tell if my ironing board is old or a replica? I think I read somewhere that if it the board was made in 2 pieces that it's old. Mine belonged to my grandmother, and I've always thought it was an antique. Does anyone know the answer?
I have several questions in one. Firstly, Roadshow always refers to "at auction" or "at retail." But in truth, how do us ordinary mortals go about selling valuables, getting into an auction, etc.?
Second question, my family has an unused complete 1950s Rosenthal china set, also an unopened set of fancy Reed & Barton silverware (I forget the style) - value? where to value it, get it appraised and also sold?
Lastly, any recommendations on where best to sell jewelry, gold, silver, precious stones, etc? I live in NYC. Circa? Fabrikant?
Thank you so very much,
a loyal subscriber and reader,
Diane
