Even though we had never met, I feel I owe much to Ralph Kovel. It was only after watching Ralph and Terry on TV that my husband felt it was "OK" to like antiques and collectibles. Our life has been greatly improved ever since! Thanks for all you have both given over the years. Our sincere condolences for this profound loss.

Dear Terry,

I am so sorry for your loss. It was obvious that the two of you shared a special connection, not just through your fascination with antiques and collectibles but as friends, and more. Your interaction while taping the TV program was fun, and sweet. Our family's interest in collectibles is due in part to your ability to make the history of any object interesting and worth knowing.

My thoughts are with your entire family. Best wishes, D. Temple, NJ

I have missed the Kovels on TV--the repartee between the two--their sharing of a love for the hunt that is available to all of us and not just the rich who collect priceless antiques.

I wish I could see the TV show again, but such things must end at some point, I guess, no matter how we don't want to let go. Ralph was somebody you never wanted to see go, but in tribute to him, I am going to go flea-marketing and poking around those collectible stores like he did. He and Terry have introduced a wonderful hobby that I can enjoy as long as Ralph and Terry have.

Thank you Ralph and Terry,

Dear Terry and Family,
We are so very sorry for Your loss. As a third generation family member of a 'good old antiquers' family, it is sad to hear of Ralph's passing. I grew up learning about antiques & collectables from my grandparents who started in the business doing flee markets and then antique shows as well as having an antique shop of their own for many years. Much of what I know about antiques has been taught to me from them through your wonderful books and TV programs. Ralph will be So missed by all who he and Terry have touched through the years. God Bless All of You in this time and Rest in Peace Ralph, there are Many Treasures in Heaven to see now.
Love and Prayers, Kim

We are so saddened by this news. Terry our hearts go out to you. While we have never formally met, you have been like a family to us. Our business literally would not exist except for the work you and Ralph laid out before us.

When we started we would not buy a single thing unless we found it in one of YOUR books. With out you and Ralph we would not have known what anything was.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this time,

Dear Terry and Family,
I am shocked to just now learn of Ralph's passing - just shocked, and truly am very sad to hear of your loss. I could see from your TV show what a fine fellow he was, and what a loving husband.

Terry, you and Ralph were so obviously a wonderful team, from co-authoring your books and creating your TV show and your wonderful newsletter and email newsletter. I know you must feel as though half of you has been ripped away. Without wanting it to, a new chapter begins.

As I've gotten older myself, and experienced the death of my loved ones, it seems to me that a quick death is a gift; a gift in that our beloveds do not have to suffer and linger through the dying process, and it sounds as though Ralph did not linger. Although I know it is heartbreaking, I am thankful as I'm sure you are, that he didn't suffer and linger, as such an intellectually curious man who loved to be "out & about" would not have liked to be ill for long and not able to keep busy with what he loved to do.
Please know that he and you have so positively impacted countless lives, and have countless friends that you just haven't met yet. I am one of many.

My Sincere Condolences. May you laugh together over your memories, and may you give thanks for being so blessed to have shared the life journey of such a fine person.

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. Even though I've never met either of you, I feel I know you so well via the internet and television show. Ralph was very passionate about antiques and their uses and origins - so much like all of us collectors. May he rest in peace.

Dear Kovel Family,
In hearing of Ralph's passing, I extend to you my deepest condolences. Ralph's laugh, good nature and love of antiques and those that collected them will be sadly missed. I recall the first time we watched your TV show and we said "lets make sure that we don't miss this show next week." Well we never missed a show and we leanred so much from Ralph and Terry that we became collectors and now dealers. Your guides are our bibles. Thank you for being such an important part of our lives. Ralph will be missed, but not forgotten. We will think of him every time we see a pair of cufflinks.
God Bless You,

Hats off ! Ralph and Terry gave me a boost when I ask for / received "Know Your Antiques" for Christmas back years ago. It was just what I needed at 12yrs old as it encourged me to fall in witht he auction going antique hunter and gatherers rather than the deadbeat crowd. It would be interesting to know how many other youngsters he / they influenced.
Thanks for everything.

My heart goes out to the Kovel Family. Ralph and Terry's Book of Marks was one of the first books my husband and I bought years ago.

Dear Mrs Kovel,

It has been a pleasure reading and learning all these years from the best of the best. My heart goes out to you and your family and friends and may you draw from the pool of life to go on, though I know it seems difficult at this time. I wrote a poem a few years ago and I would like to share it with you and hope you find comfort in my simple words.

The Passing

Though my time has come to pass upon this gentle earth.

Know in heaven God has a plan, a heavenly re-birth.

Weep no more for me my family for my suffering has come and gone.

Know in your heart I will aways be a part and you will never be alone.

Rest your weary head my family and dream of me again.

One day forever, we will be together.

Though only God knows when.

TERRY I AM SAD TO KNOW OF RALPHS PASSING, BUT AM SURE YOU CAN KEEP THE HUMMING GOING. I FIRST MET YOU TWO AT A BOTTLE SHOW IN THE EARLY 1970s. RALPH SAID HE WAS TAKING PICTURES FOR YOUR BOTTLE BOOK, AND I SAID YOU MAY. (I AM SORRY TO SAY I HAVE LOST MY BOOK). I HAD AN AMBER QUART WHISKY BOTTLE WITH A LARGE OVAL AMBER FLAT SPOT APPLIED TO THE SIDE,SO IT WOULD NOT ROLL, IT WAS UNDER A HUGE GLASS DOME, AND I KIDDED RALPH ABOUT IT BEING EXTREMELY RARE WORTH THOUSANDS, WHICH OF COURSE WAS NOT TRUE, BUT I WAS OUT FOR FUN-AND HE WAS TAKING PICTURES FOR MAYBE YOUR FIRST BOOK. I WAS WITH MY GOOD FRIEND LEON YAUN, AND WE HAD A GREAT LAUGH AT TEASING HIM. CHARLES GRIFFIN.

HEADING HOME

No bags to pack,
No ticket to punch,
On this final trip to destiny,
Relaxed in my seat I watch the floating
Clouds outside the window dissipating
Into the blue abyss.
Slowly my transit comes to a halt.
A friendly stranger,
Stellar and surrounded in celestial light,
Offers me his hand.
Soon we come upon a pair of
Golden gates as tall as infinity.
Brilliant shafts of light filter through
As the stranger opens the gate to
The promised land.
Please don't be afraid anymore.
Please don't cry anymore.
For I am safe and I am warm.
I'm very much still with you.
Watching over you as you once watched
Over me.
I'm home.

God Bless and keep you Terry.

I have been in the antique business for about 30 enjoyable years. It was a direct result of the help I received when, as a newbie, I was struggling with pricing and identification. You two helped me a great deal with your books and I am very grateful.

On behalf of both my wife and me, please accept our sympathy at the death of Ralph Kovel. We became appreciative of Terry and Ralph when we discovered their TV show a few years ago. We recently attended the Antiques Roadshow in Hartford, CT, a direct result of research on the Kovels website on items we took to be appraised. Thank you for inspiring our interest in our antiques and collectibles.

I remember, as a young housewife, going to local country auctions with my Kovels' books in my bag. I had saved to buy the books, as money was very short, but if I could show my husband that the item was listed in Kovels', and what a low sum I'd gotten it for, he thought I must be very smart!

I thank you all for sharing your collective expertise over the years, and truly commiserate with you at this sad time.

My husband and I were very sad to hear about Ralph's passing. We often saw the two of you (Ralph & Terry) on Larchmere, going in and out of the different shops. The last time we saw you both was this past year while eating at Academy Tavern; Ralph was recovering from "bad oysters". Needless to say, every time we hear about oysters, we think of Ralph. Both of you are so well-known and respected, that we enjoy bragging that "the Kovels are from Cleveland!". God bless you, Terry and family. You are in our prayers.

Dear Kovel Family, My husband and I are so sad at the news. We looked forward to watching Ralph and Terry on PBS for years and were so upset when it was no longer on. We both learned so much from Ralph and Terry, and often would jump up shouting, "Wow! We have one of those!" and race off to grab the piece and compare. I loved Ralph's puns...just like my dad's -groaners - but you could tell those jokes anywhere and be a class act. That's what Ralph was...a class act, and we will all miss him terribly. Love to the Kovel family, and peace.

Terry, and Kovel Family; Ralph was, and is, a valued member of our family of antiquers. No matter where he is at this moment, he will always be there for all of us to remember, and I know that he's watching all this from his post with the Angels. His humor and ready wit was a pleasure to see, and the world will surely miss him. Ralph was half of a matched set of a wonderful team, and it's hard to imagine a world without him. But Creator called, and he had to go. Terry, you are a strong lady, and will come through this with flying colors, and all of us out here are rooting for you. Please know that prayers are coming your way, and that all of us appreciate the selfless promise to keep us all informed about the world he loved so well, the world of antiques. He's still there, just at a different job, keeping Creator's cupboards sorted out. The books you wrote together have always been my "Bible", and even though I bought many others to cross-refferance with, I kept coming back to Kovels as the last word for pricing and down to earth knowledge. We will miss him, but he will always be remembered.

I hope this quote by William Penn (1644-1718) blesses you as it did me at the loss of a family member... "We give back, to You, oh God, those You gave to us. You did not lose them when You gave them to us, and we do not lose them by their return to you. Your dear Son has taught us that life is eternal and love cannot die. So death is only a horizon, and an horizon is only the limit of our sight. Open our eyes to see more clearly, and draw us closer to You that we may know that we are nearer to our loved ones, who are with You. You have told us that You are preparing a place for us: prepare us also for that happy place, that where You are we may always be, oh dear Lord of life and death." May these words bring you comfort and hope and may you draw near to the Great Comforter. Respectfully, Susan Forsgard

I am so sincerely sorry for the family and friends of Ralph Kovel. He and his wife Terry always appeared so genuine on their TV show and I have learned so much from them. Dear ALL the Kovels,

I am so sorry for your loss. I once read a short poem thought you'd enjoy it as well.

When the ones we love become memories. Those memories become treasures.

Well, it seems to me that your husband not only loved treasures, but was a treasure himself. Without your site and all of your wisoms put together we'd never know what our "treasures" are worth. In this case our "treasures" seem like trinkets. So thank you for thinking of us during these challenging times for you all. Thank you for being so kind to strangers, and giving us so many things to smile about. And most of all, Thank you for letting us be a part of your treaures; in everyway.
