Use your vintage linens for the holidays even if you must use your ironing board to get them into shape. (Remember the days before "permanent press"?) Use printed holiday tablecloths and cocktail napkins, even aprons with Christmas patterns. Then get out some vintage toys and candlesticks to use as centerpieces.

I have a large linen table cloth that I love to use at Christmas. Having said that I am careful to get any stains out as soon as possible and then take it to the local laundry/dry cleaers where they will wash and iron it for a price of corse, but to me it is worth it..
Dear Suzanne, if you get any stains on your vintage tablecloths (or anything else for that matter) soak it in powdered BIZ. I've tried the liquid kind, and other things, but powdered BIZ works on all organic stains -- even 50 year old gravy stains! If it doesn't come out the first time, try it again. Soak it for a week if you have to. You can also make a paste of it and keep it wet. Never use bleach. Good luck! Linda in VA
Also, if you don't like to iron, and I don't, and you like vintage linens... when you take them out of the dryer, put them out on top of the bed and smooth out the wrinkles with your hands. Fold and smooth some more. This is good unless you want a real "shine" on your damask or something, but this works for me! Linda from VA
