Unpredictable PricesPrices can be unpredictable but last week some were amazing. The Queen Anne carved walnut Compass-Seat footstool made in Philadelphia c. 1750 sold at Sotheby's with an estimate of $200,000 to $400,000. It auctioned for $5,234,500, the record price for a piece of seating furniture at auction.
wow.....that 5 and a quater million would have fed a lot of hungry people.
ReplyDeleteQuite a hefty price for a stool sample... :@
ReplyDeleteThe rich in gas producing countries are disappointed if the price is too low. This is no indication of future values.
ReplyDeleteI just wonder WHY?? I know it's Queen Anne, but it's not that interesting or special looking. Are foot stools that rare? Perhaps the maker is important?
ReplyDeleteJust proves P.T. Barnum was right.
ReplyDeleteWas the footstool made by the Queen herself?
