    Actually, current U.S. currency is about 6 1/8 inches, but is good enough for approximations.

    Years ago I measured my hand spread. It was very close to 9 inches. that is with me all the time,

    Also - for women - I am not sure about men - if you extend your arm, from the tip of the middle finger to your nose is approximately a yard,,,
